THE Kinetic Health Mining City2Surf was a great success with over 10 sites participating in this community fundraiser, raising a collective $11,260.00 for the Activ Foundation.

Now in its third year, the event has gained increasing support from companies including Rio Tinto, Decmil, Sodexo, ESS, Newmont and Fortescue Metals Group.

Sponsor nib Health Funds donated $15,000 worth of monetary prizes to teams winning the categories largest number of participants; longest distance ran and best dressed photo.

"This is the second year nib Health Funds have been involved in the Kinetic Health Mining City2Surf and we are happy to support to event," said nib WA Business Development Manager, Jillian Nelson.

"nib are very focused on bringing regional and remote communities together and this event is a perfect platform to do just that."

Shawn Murphy, National Business Development Manager for Kinetic Health is pleased with the outcome of the event and foresees further growth in 2012.

"We find that many of the sites who participate all remark that this particular event gives them a connection to something they ordinarily can't be involved in."

"The involvement this year has been fantastic and this is definitely an event that will continue to grow in numbers and support.," Mr Murphy said.

The Kinetic Health Mining City2Surf was first launched in 2009 with the clear objective to encourage activity and a sense of community in remote mining locations, whilst raising money for those in need.

In 2010 the event increased in support by 200% and in 2011 it continued to grow by a further 60% with a total of 900 participants getting involved on site.

Teams that register have the month of August to complete either the 4km or 12km distances in any way they choose whether it be dedicating a community day for everyone to participate or even running on the treadmills at the gym.
